Aerial Roof Measurements: Reports Compared

Updated: October 22, 2026

A roof claim estimate starts with measurements. Aerial roof measurements give you the squares, the pitch, and every edge length before anyone climbs a ladder, and the adjuster can check the same numbers against their own.

Below are eight providers for residential steep-slope roofs, followed by how to pick one and when a report isn't enough.

Aerial roof measurement providers

The cards are in alphabetical order. Prices and delivery times are as each provider publishes them.

EagleView roof report

EagleView measures from aerial imagery, and you order by address. Its Premium Roof Report has the edge lengths a claim estimate needs.

  • Price: Premium Roof Report from $24.25; Full House (roof, walls, windows, and doors) from $91; Bid Perfect from $18 for quick bids (checked October 2026)
  • Turnaround: delivery date shown on the order; a late report is free, except in catastrophic weather
  • Into Xactimate: ESX add-on to a Roof or Full House report, through an EagleView One subscription
  • Frontera: integrates directly, so you can order an EagleView report from inside Frontera.
  • EagleView residential reports

  • Geospan pricing

Hover roof report

Hover builds a 3D model from a 5-minute phone scan on site. It measures walls and interiors as well as the roof.

  • Price: roof only, $29 to $69 a project on the Starter plan; $9 to $49 on Pro, which costs $999 a year (checked October 2026)

How to choose a roof measurement report

Aerial or on site. Most reports come from aerial imagery you order by address, so you have the numbers before the inspection. Hover measures on site with a phone scan instead, which is worth it when walls, siding, or windows are part of the claim. That is the real difference in Hover vs. EagleView.

Getting it into your estimate. If you write in Xactimate, pick a report that comes as an ESX file or that you can order from inside Xactimate. Otherwise you'll type the measurements in by hand. Each card shows how its report gets in.

Price and speed. Most single-family roof reports cost between a few dollars and $70 and arrive within a day.

Trust, but check. Every published accuracy figure comes from the vendor. Check the image date, the address pin, and the number of buildings, and spot-check the pitch on site.

When a report isn't enough

Heavy tree cover, a roof the imagery can't model, or a carrier dispute still calls for a person and a tape. Even with a clean report, the roof walk records what imagery can't show: the layers, the decking, and the eave overhang that sets the ice-barrier line.

And no measurement report answers the damage question. Use the report for quantities and the inspection for damage. The storm and hail damage inspection guide and the roof inspection checklist cover that side.

FAQ

How much does a roof measurement report cost?

Most single-family roof reports cost between a few dollars and $70, depending on the provider, the plan, and the size of the roof. The cards above list each provider's prices as of October 2026.

Hover vs. EagleView: which should I use?

Use an aerial report such as EagleView's when you want the roof numbers before the inspection. Use Hover when walls, siding, or windows are part of the claim, because one phone scan on site measures the whole exterior.

Can satellite roof measurements be used for insurance claims?

Yes, for the estimate's quantities, if they come from a paid report with edge lengths and pitch. A footprint traced in a free tool leaves out the pitch.

Is there a free roof report?

Free tools such as Google Earth and Jobber's give a rough area for quoting, not claim-grade quantities. Google Earth traces the footprint, not the sloped surface, so a 6/12 roof that traces at 2,000 square feet is about 2,236 square feet of roof. The closest to free is Hover's Starter plan, which includes three free projects.

Can an aerial report show hail damage?

A measurement report isn't built to. It measures geometry from imagery that may predate the storm. Some drone products add damage detection, but the damage call still comes from an inspection.

Aerial roof measurements and Frontera

Frontera's estimating software works with a measurement report from any of these providers. Upload the report, and Frontera builds the roof scope from it as Xactimate-formatted line items. It also integrates directly with EagleView, so you can order an EagleView report from inside Frontera.

When an estimate arrives only as a PDF, PDF to ESX converts it to an ESX file for Xactimate. See how roofing contractors and public adjusters use Frontera for estimates and supplements.
